Absolute

In CNC this is a reference to a Cartesian coordinate system in which all coordinate locations are taken (measured) from the origin. In the Cartesian coordinate system shown below the tool moved an absolute distance from the origin of X2Y3. The tool next moved an absolute distance from the origin of X-4Y6

ABS

Abbreviation for absolute. An ABS button and INC button are found on most controllers which toggles the way the controller reads the program code and/or manual data input (MDI).
